Dear Parents,

Newsletter 8

A Very Happy New Year and welcome back to school.

Staffing

We are very pleased to welcome Mrs Jenny Barnett (Year 2 Manager, 2F) and Miss Sophie Holbrook (FH) to our school.  This term Mrs Jo Platt (Teaching Assistant) will be working in 2FW, Mrs Sarah Lorriman and Mrs Judith Hamilton (Teaching Assistants) in 1AG and Mrs Nicola Rhead (Teaching Assistant) in Foundation 1.

Water Bottles

We are in desperate need for parents to volunteer to sterilise the water bottles each Friday afternoon from 2.00pm in every year group.  If you can help please contact the school office.

Big School

Channel 5 are repeating Big School at 8.10am each morning.  Due to the popularity of the first series, ‘ Big School’ has been given a prime time slot.

School Coats

Warm, waterproof School Coats are  on sale from the school office.  The cost of each cost is £16.00.  If you would like to see the colours available or try on different sizes please see Mrs Rundle at the school office urgently.  We have to return the sample coats in one week’s time.

Attendance

Following New Guidance children should be kept away from school for 48 hours following a bout of sickness and diarrhoea.  This is the because the 24 hour rule has not been effective in preventing infection from spreading among the children.  We are asking for your full support in adhering to this new guideline.

Can I also please remind parents that the school day begins at 8.55am and children should be in the back playground by this time.  Frequent lateness may result in the involvement of the Educational Welfare Officer.  The back gate will be opened at 2.50pm each day.  Before that time there are PE lessons regularly taking place.

Uniform

Warm, waterproof coats can be ordered from the School Office.  Please note that boots cannot be worn in the  classrooms, only suitable school shoes.

Medicines

We are only able to give children medicines, creams etc prescribed by the doctor.  If you wish us to administer medicine at any particular time you need to complete a consent form from the office.  Children are not allowed to bring cough pastilles, throat sweets or lip salve into school.  Can you ensure that you do not send in medicines in your child’s book bag.  All medicines must be handed into the school office.

Spare Clothing

We are urgently in need of spare school uniform to change children into when required.  Please bring any items of clothing to the School Office.  Can you ensure that when your child comes home in spare clothing they return the items to school as soon as possible.

Lunch Boxes

Thank you for all your support in providing healthy lunches for your children.  We suggest you limit treats eg crisps, chocolate biscuits etc to one a day.

Celebrations Assembly

This will take place Wednesday 13th February  starting at 11.20 a.m.  Please bring any trophies, medals and certificates to your class teacher and make sure that each item is labelled with your child’s name and class.  All awards must be brought into school by 3.00 p.m. on Monday 11th February.  If your child wishes to perform and their coach or tutor is willing to say anything about the activities in which your child is involved, then please let Mrs Wreglesworth know.

Newsletter 9

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to inform you that Mr and Mrs Grace are expecting a baby in July.  We send our warmest congratulations to both of them.

Change of Dates

Curriculum Evening

The Curriculum Evening is now taking place of Tuesday 12th February from 7.00pm – 9.00pm.  The focus of this evening is Letters and Sounds, our new phonic scheme which supports children in their reading, spelling and writing.  Parents with children in Year 2, Year 1, Foundation 2 and Foundation 1 are welcome to attend.  It is an interactive evening and will give you an understanding of the approaches and activities that are used in classes.

Theatre Visit

We have organised for the Blunderbus Theatre Company to visit School on Monday 11th February.  They will be presenting a new musical play entitled ‘The Selfish Crocodile’, a tale of true friendship.

The animals in the forest are frightened of the selfish crocodile, - even when he’s in a good mood!  No matter how much they try, he just won’t let anyone drink from the river.  So, each day, the animals walk for miles and miles in the baking sun, searching for a single drop of water.  Then one day, the animals hear a terrible scream.  It’s the crocodile, and he’s got the toothache, - but nobody dares to help him!  They just stand and stare.  But then, a little mouse appears, and bravely finds a way to solve this snappy dilemma!  We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £1.50 per child for Year 2, Year 1 and Foundation 2.  Unfortunately we cannot accommodate Foundation 1 to this production.

Walk to School

As the weather is beginning to improve and we have had some lovely sunny days, please encourage your child/ren to walk to school.  This leads to many opportunities to look at the environment eg signs of spring and talking about road safety etc.  When your child has walked to school 40 times they will get a free swim.  Please see Mrs Grace or your class teacher for a walk to school card.

Parking

Please can I remind you not to park in the slip road off

Ingram Avenue
, or on corners or across driveways either in
Ingram Avenue
, or in the Bedgrove Pavilion area as it creates a safety problem for the children walking to and from school.  The school has been contacted on several occasions by neighbours around the school expressing concern about young children being left unattended in cars.  Please be aware of the risks and dangers this involves.  Please also do not allow children to ride bicycles or scooters in the playground for safety reasons.

Boys Trousers

Thank you to the parents who kindly have donated spare clothing.  It is very much appreciated.  We are still in need of boys trousers and would appreciate any donations.

Open Afternoon and Morning

Will be at the same time as the monthly drop ins, Monday 4th February 3.00pm – 4.00pm or for working parents, Tuesday 5th February 8.00am – 8.30am.

Dear Parents,

Back Playground

Can I remind you that bicycles and balls are not to be brought into the playground.  Should a ball be inadvertently left out from the school equipment then please make sure it is handed in to the nearest member of staff.  Recently we had a group of children who, whilst playing football after school, unfortunately kicked the ball into a parent causing injury to her leg.

Pavilion Car park

Just to inform you of the scheduled closure of the Bedgrove Community Centre car park and access road for the lines to be remarked and patching work to be completed on the access road.  The work is planned for some time during the February half term (Monday 18th – Friday 22nd February) and should take approximately one day.  Should you have any queries please contact Sylvia Robinson on 01296 434751.

School access via

Ingram Avenue
.

As a result of a recent incident in the slip road outside the school gates the police have issued the following request.  Should a parent/carer witness any incident involving driving that could be of potential danger to anyone using this access route, then would they please take down the car registration details and ring the police with the necessary information.  Hopefully this will not occur but the procedures have been put in place should an incident arise.

Phonics Evening

A reminder of the Phonics Evening for all parents tomorrow evening 12th February from 7.00pm – 9.00pm.

Book Fair

There will be a Book Fair in school from the 26th February until 4th March.  The Book Fair will be open from 8.30am until 9.00am and 3.00pm until 3.30pm.  The school receives a percentage of the takings to purchase books for the school.  Please try and support this venture.
